What They Do:

What They Do:

Slash puts local shopping deals on people’s phones. Retailers, restaurants and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) brands can publish discounts and clearance offers through the app, where shoppers find nearby promotions before visiting the store to buy.

Businesses can put up an offer whenever they need to, track how it performs and learn what shoppers respond to. For distributors, that includes surplus and near-expiry stock that needs to be sold quickly. The app gives shoppers a place to discover savings and businesses a direct channel for promoting stock they want to sell.

Why We Invested:

Why We Invested:

Slash brings together several commercial incentives. Retailers can reduce their dependence on printed flyers, distributors can recover value from stock that might otherwise be discarded, and households can find offers that make their shopping budgets go further.

The clearance use case is particularly relevant. A timely promotion can help a business sell surplus or near-expiry goods while giving customers access to lower prices. Alongside the savings on printing, that makes reducing waste part of the platform’s everyday use.

With around 55,000 downloads and more than 3,400 active users, Slash has attracted shoppers as well as major retailers and FMCG distributors in Botswana. Distributors in Namibia have also expressed interest, giving the team a potential next market with similar retail conditions.
