What They Do:

What They Do:

Koloso helps primary and secondary school teachers connect lesson planning with what their pupils are learning. Its Teaching Support System brings together lesson preparation and delivery, assessment and analysis, so teachers can use the results to decide where each child needs support.

The platform is curriculum-aware and pedagogy-neutral: it works with the curriculum while leaving teaching methods to the teacher. Schools can use Koloso alongside their existing approach, with evidence of learning helping teachers understand the impact of their decisions and plan what comes next.

Why We Invested:

Why We Invested:

We are interested in the decisions teachers can make when they have a clearer view of learning in their classrooms. Koloso gives them a way to see where pupils are making progress and where a different approach or further attention may be needed.

That focus on teachers’ professional judgement is important to the company’s model. The system can support different teaching approaches, allowing schools to adopt it while retaining their own philosophy.

Koloso has about 6,000 active users and is already selling outside Zambia. The company has active sales in Nigeria, an NGO partnership in South Africa, and an early sales presence in Uganda and Rwanda. Its full Teaching Support System, K2, launched in August 2026, and the team is building its sales pipeline.

Founder’s Corner

Founder’s Corner

James Blewett is the CEO and co-founder of Koloso, where he leads product strategy and fundraising. A chartered management accountant (CIMA), his career began in corporate finance at Arthur Andersen before spending more than 20 years leading UK and multilateral funded private-sector development programmes across Africa, Asia and the Middle East, most recently as CEO of Prospero in Zambia. Convinced that education is the foundation of all development, he co-founded Koloso to build teaching tools designed for African curricula and classrooms.

Petra Chikasa is the co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of Koloso, where she leads brand, market entry and partnerships. A graduate in International Relations and Development from Mulungushi University, with a Women's Leadership certificate from Oxford's Saïd Business School, she previously worked in destination development at Prospero Zambia. Her Girl Solidarity Project campaigned to raise Zambia's legal age of marriage, work that took her to the United Nations General Assembly. That commitment to children's education led her to Koloso.

Siphiwe Sowi Munsaka is the co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Koloso, where she leads operations, compliance and sales execution. She previously spent five years running the activity centre at Bushtracks Africa, a leading Southern African safari and logistics company, and managed projects at Insaka App Technology. She holds a diploma in Gender Studies from Evelyn Hone College and is studying Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She co-founded Koloso to give teachers the support they need to focus on learning.
